Houseplants on Trend

2020 has been a year hasn’t it? With all of the crazy, hopefully there has also been some good. Spending more time in our homes this year has lead many of us to look around and re-evaluate what we want from our homes. How we want them to function, look, and feel. This translates to some really great design trends. One that I have embraced this year is houseplants. You guys,I have been married for 27 years and have tried many, many times to learn the great mystery of keeping a plant alive indoors and each and every time I have failed…ugh! Several years ago, I finally just gave up. But, my daughter and her husband are plant whisperers and have inspired me to give it another go. So, last fall I bought this beautiful fiddle leaf fig tree. You know, just to get my feet wet again, why not buy an expensive, finicky, difficult to keep alive plant? That makes sense, right? Well, it looked beautiful for about a month and then started dropping leaves like it was it’s job. I realized I was giving it just a tad too much water (like about 4x too much!!!). That sweet little tree had 2 leaves left when it was all said and done. It was the saddest little tree you’ve ever seen, but it was still alive. Then, 2020…and I had a little time at home to learn and watch and try to nurse that thing back to life. Slowly but surely a new little leaf sprouted and then another. Since then, I have bought 7 more plants and they have all been alive for over 6 months which is a record around here, folks. One of my very favorite plants came with instructions that said “1 cup of water every 2 weeks”, why don’t all houseplants come with directions like that??? Anyway, this is a trend that will be sticking around for 2021 and I am here for it! I love having plants in the house. They improve the air quality, can reduce stress and anxiety, can improve focus, and who doesn’t love seeing some green during a long, dark, winter? Not to mention the selection of gorgeous pots add instant design style. I am including a few favorites with links below.
